It’s the start of 2020, the first year of a new decade, or last year of an old decade, depending upon which side of the argument you fall. Whichever it is, for many, our 2020 New Year Resolutions are already under strain.

If 2020 is to be your year of change then perhaps a little reading may be in order. A year is a long time to stay motivated and so we all need to find ideas and methods we can use to anchor our changes.

Tim Ferriss’ book The 4-Hour Workweek is one such book you should pick up and start to take on board.

Side Income Planet

Beware, it’s a decent size book and truth be told I read it in two parts. But that is part of its beauty. It is one of those books which you can pick up, read, take some ideas and then go and think about.

Actually it has been the cause of quite a lot of ideas conversation between me and my two grown up sons.

So what does it cover? Well literally as per the title, the focus is on making you far more efficient, and in some cases disciplined, so that you can enjoy your life every year rather than saving everything up for some far off retirement utopia.

You can read how Ferriss gained a Guinness world record in tango dancing; became a Chinese kickboxing champion; has done horseback archery and has set up businesses and made a lot of money.

It has caused me to think about how I value my time; about why I engage in side income earners; about how I design my work life; and it also means I now regularly work with specialists in India, Pakistan and the Philippines rather than just at home in the UK.

It has broadened my perspective and it will, at the very least, cause you to stop and take stock of where you are.

In which case, it is a book for January 2020.
